Policies for Course Reserves: Denison
Information for Students
Many Scripps faculty members place readings on reserve at Denison's Circulation Desk. Usually these readings are books and photocopies of articles, but they can also be other types of material such as videotapes or CD ROMs. Reserve items circulate for periods of time specified by the faculty, usually 2 hours, 2 days, or 7 days. Students must present a valid Claremont Colleges ID card to check out reserve materials. To see a list of Denison Reserve items, you can search reserves in Blais, the online catalog, by course name or by instructor name. We also maintain an in-library index to all course readings on reserve at Denison.
Information for Faculty
Many Scripps faculty prefer the convenience of placing reserve readings at Denison. Our circulation policies are in line with those of the other libraries in Claremont. See information for faculty on putting materials on reserve at the library for procedures and policies.
As a courtesy to you and a convenience to your students, Denison Library will place your personal copies of books on reserve if we are unable to purchase the items you need or if you anticipate extensive use. Normally we will place a barcode and other identifying labels on the book; if you wish us not to, inform the Reserves staff when you submit the materials. As students may use reserves quite heavily, we cannot guarantee the condition of personal copies. Due to space constraints, we must ask you not to submit more than two copies of each personal copy. All copies will be returned at the end of the reserve use.
In addition, a copy of your syllabus will be helpful in facilitating the entire process. If your reserve list is one you have used in the past, you may reactivate that list.
Also, please note that you may use ERes, the Libraries' electronic reserves system. In ERes you may provide access to scanned texts, images, and other types of materials for your classes. For more details on ERes please refer to information for faculty on putting materials on electronic reserve.
We would like to receive all course reserves well in advance of the beginning of the semester to ensure that all material is processed and available in a timely manner. If you have any questions or suggestions about course reserves in Denison or on ERes, please call at 607-3941 or e-mail the Reserves Assistant, Cara Barker.
