You don't have the book I want! What do I do now?
How to buy a book.
- Borrow. If you are a Claremont Colleges student, faculty or staff member, you may request any book not owned by the libraries via CSULink or Interlibrary Loan. Click the links for instructions and more information on these services.
- Suggest for purchase. You many suggest that the Library purchase the book to add to the collection. On the Blais home page, click the "Suggest a book for purchase" button. Fill out the online form with as much information as you have. Please sign your request so we can respond to you. If you would like to be first in line to use the book, watch for the order record to appear in Blais. It may say "Under Consideration" or "On Order." When the record is in Blais, you may place a hold on it at Circulation, even though the book has not yet reached the Library.
- Buy. You may wish to buy your own copy.
- Get the Facts. You will need to know the title, author, publisher, and date of publication. The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is helpful to many bookstores. You can get this information from the Books in Print database in FirstSearch. The price will be included, and there may be separate records for paperbacks (coded TP) and hardbound (coded TC) editions. If the book is out of print and not listed in Books in Print, try WorldCat, also in FirstSearch, for this information. If you have read about the book in a review, the necessary ordering information is almost always included at the top or bottom of the review.
- Find a Bookstore. Locally, there are a number of bookstores in Claremont, and nearby at the Montclair Plaza, or you may wish to use an online bookstore.

Borders- Order from the Publisher. Some publishers will accept orders by mail, phone, or email. Some have 800 numbers. In the web version of Books in Print, click on any linked publisher name in a book record for address information. There are U.S. and international publishers directories available at the Honnold/Mudd Reference Desk.
- Find Used and Out of Print Books.
