The Carnegie Library
Pomona College, 1908-1952

The Carnegie Library, at 425 North College Avenue on the Pomona College campus, was the first library building at The Claremont Colleges. Dedication Day was November 21, 1908, and everyone came dressed in their best. Pomona’s twentieth year saw the addition of the Carnegie Library, Smiley Hall, and Brackett Observatory, and all three were dedicated on the same day with a grand procession. Events included the presentation of keys, reception, and commission of keys of each of the buildings, a prayer of dedication, and an address in the Claremont Church. (Lyon, E. Wilson.
